Welcome to the Bootcamp!

A short on-line course. Give a couple of hours of your time for a skill that lasts a lifetime.

Life’s hard enough without a hard-wired stress reaction running the show … which it does.

It's a bit like the annoying seatbelt beeper in the car.

Not something we chose. Or enjoy.

Fortunately, there’s ways to disable the beeper … and ways to disable stress reactions too.

One of these is self-kindness.

What People Say

Game changer!

Annie B

"Very useful and enlightening. Can’t believe I never really understood this stuff before."

Safe and secure

Eliza S.

The practices in this course were like taking the hand of my grandmother and feeling safe and cared for. I found that same security and safety within myself .

A lovely soft cloud

Tammy S.

There are so many beautiful messages throughout, I hope that everybody that does the Bootcamp gets a lot out of it, because you've cut through the hard-work of research and given us a lovely platform to jump from, knowing that we'll land on a beautiful soft cloud, arrhh...

A deep sleep at last

Krishna L.

I looove your lotus meditation. It helped me calm my mind in the early hours of the morning and return to a deep sleep I have not had in a long time.

Lizard brain interrupted

Julie M

I really loved and was surprised by the idea that self-kindness interrupts the lizard brain reactions because it is not automatic - I feel like I need to think about that for a while but I think it is a really useful point to make.

Just What I Needed

Sarah Daley Madeira

I loved this course. It was just what I needed after such a crazy few years we have all had. It's easy to get into the mindset of self blame for our overwhelming emotions during this time. Self kindness is where it's at.

Insights for Difficult Times

Mary Boittier

I LOVED road testing this course and got insights that are helping me cope in difficult times. Highly recommended. *****

FAQ

  • HOW LONG DOES THE COURSE TAKE?

You'll need a few hours to do it justice. It's optional to cover the bonus material, further learning and activities. You might like to go at a leisurely pace ... watch a session, then take some time to think about it, before coming back again for the next dish.

  • HOW IS IT ORGANISED?

Check out 'What's in the Box' above, which lays out the structure of the modules.

  • WHAT FORMAT IS IT IN?

Select from video, audio or transcript … or all three. Plus you can enable video captions.

  • SORRY FOR ASKING BUT … WON’T SELF-KINDNESS MAKE ME A LOSER?

Q- Will it make me soft? Weak?? Isn’t it self-indulgent and self-absorbed? Will I lose my drive and competitive edge? A- No, the opposite. Self-kindness builds strength and resilience. It leads to more caring relationships and less self-absorption.

  • WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

    • Busy time-poor people (because the course is essentialised- it’s all there, without the fluff). • Great if you tend to judge and criticize yourself for your inadequacies or shortcomings (and want to understand and change that). • You find yourself snapping at others out of frustration: here’s first base for restoring nice you. • You get stuck in the blame-game (blaming self or others) when upset. • Looping, anxious thoughts drive you crazy.

  • ERR …DO ‘SELF-KINDNESS’ AND ‘BOOTCAMP’ ACTUALLY FIT TOGETHER?

Isn’t “self-kindness” a bit gooey to be boot-camped? No way, self-kindness done properly is strong stuff! This short intensive gives a kick up the backside to ingrained habits (like self-criticism and negative rumination).

Instructor

Hi, I'm Shakti. I could list my qualifications here ...  tho I think it would be more valuable to say I'm no stranger to anxiety, confusion, depression, rumination and the difficult headspace.

Particularly in my younger days, before I discovered the life-buoys that mindfulness skills bring.

Which keep me afloat, more often than not. #thank.effing.goddess.

Over the decades, I've had the opportunity to dive deep into the nittty-gritty warty experience of being human. And I've brought back gems from the murky depths to share with you.

Shakti Burke

Your instructor Shakti Burke has a successful track record teaching mindfulness-related disciplines. Her online offerings bring you the content she has honed and developed in face-to-face classes over the decade. Her early training includes study and residency at Bihar School of Yoga, India (1988-1990), followed by Siddhartha’s Intent global Buddha-dharma (since 1999). She recently graduated from the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with the renowned Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield (2021). Shakti has created two picture books 'Rest is Best' and 'ZapZap Brain Snap: Meet the Amygdala', available on Amazon or through joyfulmind.net.au.
